Radicate è nato nel 2012, quando strumenti come Skype iniziavano appena a diffondersi.
Fin dall’inizio li abbiamo adottati per mettere in relazione persone e idee in modo diretto e immediato, creando un archivio in continua evoluzione.
Questo avveniva molto prima che piattaforme come Teams o Meet diventassero di uso quotidiano.
L’intenzione era di sfruttare questi strumenti di connessione per esplorare questioni urgenti come migrazioni, trasformazioni tecnologiche, climatiche e geopolitiche, attraverso conversazioni con artisti, curatori, scienziati e ricercatori di tutto il mondo.

Radicate è un progetto ideato da Tiziana Casapietra.

Radicate was founded in 2012, when tools like Skype were just beginning to spread.
From the outset, we adopted them to connect people and ideas directly and immediately, creating an ever-evolving archive.
This was happening well before platforms such as Teams or Meet became part of everyday life.
The aim was to use these connection tools to explore urgent issues such as migration, technological, climatic, and geopolitical transformations, through conversations with artists, curators, scientists, and researchers from all over the world.

Radicate is a project conceived by Tiziana Casapietra.

Bani Abidi was born in Karachi, Pakistan. She moved in Berlin in 2011. Her work was shown at the last Documenta 13th (June 9th – September 16th 2012).

In this part 2 of our conversation, Bani Abidi talks about the place she was born, Karachi. Then she starts talking about Berlin, where she moved one year ago for the DAD program. She says that the German imagination about contemporary art in quite local and Eurocentric. “There is an heavy dose of pragmatism in Germany. Pragmatism, hard work and sincerity seem to be the morals and the values that you encounter in the German public talk and for me it is not necessarily my cup of tea. I went to Italy; everything is dysfunctional, but there is something that, coming from South Asia, I could relate to much more. I am much more familiar with things not working and people wanting to live a crazier life”.
